Getting started

Download Clip on the App Store for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. The Mac app is coming soon.

  • Mac: macOS 14 or later. Open Clip from the menu bar, use your configured shortcut to show the history, or start a region capture.
  • iPhone and iPad: iOS or iPadOS 17 or later. Open Clip and choose to import from the clipboard, or add a text item.
  • Apple Watch: watchOS 10 or later. Enable Clip’s iCloud history on your devices to access saved text and links.

Clipboard and capture on Mac

The menu bar gives you access to Clip’s history and settings. Configure your preferred shortcuts in Clip Settings → Shortcuts. Search for a saved item, select it, then copy, paste or drag it into another app.

To capture part of your screen, use the capture shortcut and drag across the region you need. Press Escape to cancel. Screen freezing is available in the capture settings.

Open the screenshot’s edit action to annotate it. Add arrows, shapes, text, numbered steps, highlights, blur or pixelation. You can also crop and combine images. Command-S saves and closes the editor window.

Mac permissions

Screen Recording: required to capture your screen. Allow Clip in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording (the name may include “System Audio,” depending on macOS).

Accessibility: required for Clip to paste directly into another application. Allow Clip in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility. Copying an item and pasting manually with Command-V does not require that permission.

If macOS already shows Clip as allowed but the app cannot use the permission, quit and reopen Clip. After an app replacement, the system may still refer to an older copy. Check that the allowed app is the Clip installed in your Applications folder, then toggle its permission off and on if needed.

iPhone, iPad and the keyboard

The main app imports clipboard content when you choose to do so. iOS does not allow Clip to continuously monitor other applications’ clipboards in the background.

To add the optional keyboard, go to Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard → Clip. Full Access is used to read the history shared with the Clip app. While the keyboard is visible, it can save clipboard changes if Full Access and Clip’s keyboard history option are enabled.

Use the globe key to switch keyboards. You can remove Clip’s keyboard or turn off Full Access at any time in the same iOS settings. The Mac image editor is not part of the iPhone or iPad app.

iCloud and Apple Watch

Use the same Apple Account for iCloud on your devices, enable iCloud for Clip, and check the synchronization options in Clip’s account settings. History and image synchronization can be controlled separately.

Sign in with Apple inside Clip is optional. It is separate from the iCloud account configured on your device. Signing in inside the app does not switch the device’s iCloud account.

If an item is missing on another device, check the network connection, iCloud storage and sync settings, then open Clip on both devices. The Watch shows saved text and links; images and the Mac editor are not available there. Clipboard items marked as sensitive are not synchronized.

Subscriptions and restoration

The subscription plans are US$4.99/month and US$39.99/year, including all four apps. A seven-day introductory trial is available to eligible accounts. The App Store displays the applicable local price and eligibility before you confirm.

To recover an existing subscription, use Restore Subscription in Clip with the Apple Account that made the purchase. You can manage or cancel your subscription with Apple. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. Purchases are subject to Apple’s standard license agreement.

TestFlight: in-app purchases made in a TestFlight build use Apple’s test environment and do not charge real money. You may need to activate a test subscription to use subscription features. Test purchases do not carry over to the released App Store app.
